Productivity Apps in Test: My Mood Tracker

Does your mood often shift without you being able to tell why? It’s quiet obvious why you’d feel happy after attending one of our Time Management Workshops, but it’s not always as straight forward as that. Even when feeling stressed, you might not always be able to pinpoint why you’re feeling this way. That’s why our next contestant for our Productivity Apps in Test series is….

Chosen App: My Mood Tracker
Available on: App Store

Why did you pick this particular app?

My mood changes quite frequently and I’ve never paid much attention to the reasons why. I’ve also been trying to find the best working pattern for myself, to notice when I slump and when I’m at my most productive to I thought this app would be perfect.

How does it work?

You choose from a list of emotions and select the one that represents how you’re feeling the most accurately. You then rate how you’re feeling on a scale of 1-10 and log your mood. You can then go back and track how you’ve been feeling during the day/week and there’s a section for making notes if you want to log why you may be feeling that way.

How did you use the app? And what changed for you?

I used it on my iPhone and set myself a reminder every evening to log how I felt that day. Then on my “planning day” which is a Sunday, I had a quick look to see how that week had gone for me, emotionally.

What was your favorite feature?

I liked being able to log everything in one place. You can log your mood, your menstrual cycle, your medication intake and any aches or pains you might be having.

Nothing is perfect. What were the negatives of using the app?

The interface isn’t very sophisticated. The color scheme is quite jarring and I think there are a lot of other apps out there that do the same thing but are nicer to look at.

Will you continue using it? Why/Why not?

No, I could do the same thing with my journal and then I can customize it to my preference.

Who would you recommend this app for?

I think the app is good for people that like bright colors (haha!) and that aren’t fond of pen and paper.
